Main facts about ticks
Ticks are the main arthropod disease vector in Europe and have a larger spectrum of disease transmission than any other arthropods.
Several species of tick are present in Europe. Three of them have an impact on veterinary and human medicine: Ixodes ricinus, Dermacentor reticulatus and Rhipicephalus sanguineus.
Each species has its own biological characteristics and can transmit specific diseases.
Depending on where you live and where you spend time outdoors, you may come across different tick species.
