What is the life cycle of fleas ?
The adults live for about 3 weeks and feed on the blood of the animal. Females lay about 20 eggs per day. These eggs fall to the floor and hatch in 2 to 3 days. In areas that are humid and dark, the larvae emerge after 7 to 14 days. The final larval stage makes a sticky cocoon (pupa) which is very protective. Inside the cocoon, the larva develops into a nymph, then into an adult, which may survive for 6 months before emerging. Stimuli from the pet cause the young flea to emerge and jump on to the passing pet. The cycle continues on the animal and in its environment.
