Consequences of ear mite infestation
Infestation is characterised by a chronic inflammation of the ear canals, caused by a pruriginous otitis which is often bilateral.
This is a typical infection in cats and dogs and is also transmitted between them.
The application of a cotton bud to the canal causes a scratching reflex of the hind limb (audito-podal reflex).
